^ IF (and only if) you have a good set of earphones. What's yours? I got Creative EP-630.

@toxicator Perhaps your brother might be able to tell. :D

---

I did not poll. I find the options not inclusive and generally inapplicable. :P
For the question: I listen to music on virtually anything that plays it.

1. iPod Touch
2. Computer (MacBook)
3. Mobile (HTC Gene)
4. TV (LG 21")
5. Stereo (Sanyo Dual Bass)

I just like to be specific, thats it.

Lol.. surely he does.

And in the poll, pri2sh mentioned iPod and Mp3 players... iPods are no longer MP3 players... they are iPods!!

I would have simply said PMPs, or maybe video supporting PMPs. And the poll was unnecessary, considering the member count. :D

Poll might draw members, as well. People love polls.

ipod is made by apple & mp3 player are made by some chinese companies..with space of around 1gb + and sound in Sony Ericson walman phone is also good . most of mobile's earphone have much sharpness and bass is very less..

^ That's one of the most rudimentary and 'inaccurate' statements I have heard, this week maybe. About iPod and MP3 that is.

Yep, iPod is a more specific term for PMP. Its one of those things which people call instead of the real 'common noun' name which really freaks me out. Like for photocopy, people call it 'xerox' which is infact a company for photocopiers. I know the wide popularity of the word made it into the dictionary as a synonym for 'photocopy'. Same goes for keyboards/synthesizers - people will call it 'Casio' no matter which brand it really is. They'd be like "Hey, where's my Casio?" even when his/her synthesizer is made by Yamaha... lol

I heard a friend of mine saying, "I am listening to songs on iPod" when he was listening it on a MP3 player.. Which again got on my nerves. I think they's add the name soon to the dictionary too.

I think, I am being too redundant with this long post of mine. End.

@pri2sh

That aside, mp3 is a audio file format proposed by MPEG Association (Motion Picture .. something).

Any device that can play audio files of mp3 format becomes an mp3 player. All iPods are mp3 players (and much more in addition to playing mp3s).

A better term would be PMP (Portable Media Player).

Those cheap chinese and duplicate devices are also PMPs. So are the devices from Archos, Cowon, Creative, Sansa, iRiver and most importantly iPod.

What is so difficult?

And even the most elementary of those devices can do 'more' than just play mp3s. They might play *.wma, or *.aac, *.ogg or *.flac. So will you start calling them AAC players or OGG players? No! That is why I advise you to use the term PMP.

And whatever you call as mp4 player is also a PMP. mp4 is just a file format. The device can play more formats than just *.mp4..

@toxicator While I have no problems with Xerox, I certainly do with iPod. :D

Actually when people call them (those chinese devices) MP3, MP4, as if thats a product and not a file format, thats the most irritating.

And you know what, I got this iPod Touch from USA okay, and this friend of mine said: 'Ay, yesto ta yaha 3,000 ma paucha, ajha camera pani huncha'. 'Ke difference chha ra, tyai touchscreen ta ho, ke kam geet sunna, video herna touchscreen?'

That really got on my nerves but I then thought better of it and let him think what he thought. It was no use anyways, I would have had to explain him starting from Apple to digital music to file formats to Audio hardware. And I dont think he would have understood it.

Its not easy being a geek.

Not all iPods can play videos and games. A la iPod Shuffle. And older iPods like 1st and 2nd generation iPod Nano, iPod (original 2001 model). iPod Mini.
----

And not all devices that can do videos and games are "iPods". Even the cheap chinese PMPs can do videos and games.

Wikipedia, boy. :)

Mostly iTunes and mp3s at work but at home I usually listen to records or plug my iPod into my stereo.
