The newly approved Bluetooth 3.0 will offer significantly increased speeds that will enable users to transfer large files. Bluetooth 3.0 priovides the ability to transfer large video files, music collections and photo libraries in a matter of seconds. The current Bluetoth spec is only ideal for transferring smaller-sized data such as contact info or calendar items.
The upcoming Bluetooth 3.0 specification also features the new Enhanced Power Control or EPC capability, which reduces the occurrence of disconnects when handling a Bluetooth enabled device. This new specification also uses Generic Alternate MAC/PHY (AMP) which enables profiles to operate at Wi-Fi speeds.
The Bluetooth Special Interest Group will reveal additional details on the Bluetooth 3.0 specification on April 21. A list of chip makers who will provide products to support the new spec will also be announced.
